Our day starts in Porto Santo Stefano, a picturesque fishing village known for its bustling harbor and maritime charm.

“Kick things off with a classic Italian breakfast at a local Bar. Sip your espresso slowly and savor a freshly baked cornetto (croissant) while soaking in the seaside atmosphere.”

Crowning the hill with its regal poise, the 17th-century Fortezza Spagnola (Spanish Fortress) stands as a testament to Porto Santo Stefano’s maritime heritage. Originally erected to fend off pirates, today it serves as a historical museum, offering stunning views of the harbor and a treasure trove of artifacts.

The Capo d’Uomo Tower is a coastal tower at an elevation of approximately 350 meters above sea level, with the summit of the hill that rises in the western part of the Argentario promontory, providing stunning panoramic views of the sea.

We will park our car in the small parking near the Poggio Fornacelle, (the exact location of the parking is pointed out in the Google Maps Itinerary).

NOTE: Be prepared for a moderately challenging hike to reach the summit of Torre Capo D’Uomo, but you will get the best views of Monte Argentario.

Here starts the trail hike that takes you to one of the most stunning viewpoints on Monte Argentario.

It takes about 1 hour walking to complete the loop around Poggio Fornacelle. You’ll walk along the ridge, go over Poggio Fornacelle, and ascend a steep slope to reach Capo d’Uomo Tower. This historic old stone tower on a cliff offers a historic and scenic backdrop.

We suggest beginning the hike at least one hour before sunset. This way, you’ll have enough daylight for your walk to the summit and back to your car.
